Activities
Lugnaquilla, Wicklow’s highest peak, rises to over 3,000 feet just behind Aughavannagh Cottage and provides an exhilarating challenge for the energetic and experienced who will be rewarded with spectacular views from the summit. There are several routes to the top and it isn’t difficult to plan a hike which ascends one route and descends by way of a different track.

Golf
Aughavannagh Cottage is also within easy reach of some of Ireland’s greatest golf courses with a wide variety of golfing venues to choose from. Challenging coastal links and beautiful parkland settings are all near by. For instance Druids Glen, recent hosts of the Irish Open is a short 40 minute drive. Even closer are spectacular courses at Glenmalure, Woodenbridge, Arklow, Roundwood, Djouce and Coolattin. At many of the courses green fees are surprisingly reasonable, particularly during the week and the keen golfer will find the Irish golfing experience refreshingly informal and sociable. There is an almost overwhelming choice in the sheer variety of quality courses to choose from. For those who would like to play a different venue every day, the world famous Mount Juliet and the magnificent K Club (home of the Ryder Cup in 2007) are both less than one and a half hours away.

Further Details
The Wicklow Way is one of Europe’s most beautiful way marked trails. The Way begins just south of Dublin City and stretches deep into the mountains, meandering for over 100 kilometres through countless spectacular glens and valleys. Aughavannagh Cottage is ideally placed on the mid–way point, making it the perfect location for exploring the Way without having to change accommodation every day. The route traverses old military roads, pilgrim trails and disused mountain routes. The scenery is consistently breathtaking and there is a real sense of discovering a hidden Ireland of sleepy little villages, ancient monastic settlements and historic sites associated with Irelands fascinating past.
